What are Time Dollars

Education:
Cross-Age Peer Tutoring
A cross-age peer tutoring program is a way to engage students of all skill levels to excel academically by working with their peers. In this model, older students tutor younger students in all academic areas, and in exchange for providing and/or receiving tutoring, students earn Time Dollars that they can redeem for awards. For more information on the Peer Tutoring Model, contact TimeBanks USA.

Time Dollar Tutoring, Chicago, Illinois:
In Chicago, Maine and Florida, under-privileged children earn recycled computers through Cross-Age Peer Tutoring Programs, developed by TimeBanks USA, in which older students – many of whom are classified as Special Education or academically deficient – tutor younger students. In Chicago, over 4800 computers have been given out to students who completed 100 hours of tutoring. In addition, parents are required to participate 8 hours in the program for their children to qualify to receive a computer. They earn Time Dollars for attending school council meetings and meetings about alternative policing strategies in their communities.
