Four Core Principles

Self-Assessment

An Introduction

Achieving Co-Production is a process. It takes time and commitment. The self-assessment tool provides questions that can be used to determine to what extent Co-Production is present. It also shows where energies can most effectively be focused for change.

The questions ask whether and how much Co-Production's four core principles are subscribed to or implemented, and can be asked as six different levels of the organization or program:

1. Mission

2. Board, Management and Organizational Structure

3. Current Strategic Plan

4. Budget

5. Current Policies and Procedures

6. Day-to-day operations

Part of the tool is a visual profile that clearly reflects current status and can be used to chart progress made over time.

Sample questions from the Co-Production Assessment Tool:

Assets
Does your agency consider client strengths beyond the range of problems that your agency is mandated to address?

Redefining Work
What rewards, incentives, or benefits are provided as a form of compensation to persons not on payroll.

Reciprocity
Does the agency request, require, or even encourage a payback? (Or does it just deliver services and material
goods?)

Social Capital
Does agency practice seek to link clients together to create informal networks?
