As a partner of Coudert Brothers, LLP, Jonathan Cahn has advised clients active in Central Asia and the Caspian Region since 1996. Cahn served as legal counsel to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the World Bank legal reform project and advised the Government in the drafting of the Law on Petroleum, Law on Foreign Investments and the Law on External Debt. Since those original assignments, his practice has focused on representing clients in the petroleum, telecommunications, mining and heavy industry sectors. He has drafted and negotiated numerous exploration and production agreements in Kazakhstan, including several production sharing agreements, and has been lead counsel in negotiations of oil company acquisitions, and public and private securities placements involving oil producing ventures.
Cahn also has extensive experience in international litigation and arbitration. He is listed in the Euromoney Guide to the World’s Leading Energy and Natural Resource Lawyers 2001. Cahn received a B.A. in History and Literature with honors from Harvard College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
